The Nile Delta is the broad region of northern Egypt where the Nile spreads into branches before reaching the Mediterranean Sea. It extends north from the Cairo area. The marker indicates the delta region only. It is not the location of Jochebed’s home or the basket in Exodus 2.
What the story tells us
Exodus 2 places the basket among reeds along the bank of the Nile. It does not name the town, palace, or branch of the river. The wider Israelite settlement region in Egypt is commonly associated with the eastern delta. That broad association cannot pinpoint this family’s home.
How to read the map
Cairo provides a familiar modern reference at the delta’s southern end. The Mediterranean coast lies to the north. Today’s roads, cities, and waterways help orient us, but the river’s branches have changed over time. A modern channel should not be treated as a verified ancient route.
The regional marker is deliberately approximate; the basket’s location remains unknown.
