Sarah’s story includes a camp near Mamre in the Hebron area. The marker identifies Hebron’s Old Town in today’s West Bank, about 19 miles south of Jerusalem in a straight line. It is a regional landmark, not the location of Sarah’s tent.
Where was the camp?
Genesis 18 places the visitors’ meeting near the trees of Mamre. Several sites around Hebron have been associated with that name. An ancient enclosure north of the Old Town is one traditional location, but it does not establish the exact place where Sarah lived.
What the marker shows
The coordinates come from UNESCO’s listing for Hebron/Al-Khalil Old Town. Its streets and monuments reflect many later periods. The sacred burial complex associated with Abraham and Sarah is part of the city’s religious heritage; the present buildings are not the family camp described in Genesis.
The illustration imagines a tent in the surrounding hill country. It does not reconstruct a proven archaeological site. Today’s boundaries and street names help with orientation and do not describe the political world of Genesis.
