Understanding Financial Responsibility Score (FRS)
Financial responsibility scores for private colleges, calculated annually by the U.S. Department of Education on a scale from -1.0 to 3.0, assess an institution’s financial health and determine its eligibility for federal funds, with scores of 1.5 or higher considered financially responsible, scores between 1.0 and 1.4 requiring additional oversight, and scores of 0.9 or below triggering stricter monitoring and financial requirements.
