Micah lived in the hill country of Ephraim, in the central highlands north of Jerusalem. Much of this region lies in today’s West Bank. His house has no secure modern identification. The marker below locates ancient Shechem near modern Nablus as a regional landmark, not Micah’s home.
A region, not a street address
Judges 17:1 and 18:13 locate Micah in the hills of Ephraim. The ancient tribal region belonged to the central highlands. The map includes modern Jerusalem to the south and Nablus to the north to help orient readers. Modern roads and boundaries do not reproduce ancient tribal borders.
Why this marker is here
Shechem, identified with Tell Balata, is a known landmark associated with Ephraim. The site is about 1.2 miles (2 kilometers) east-southeast of modern Nablus. That distance describes the landmark’s location; it tells us nothing about how far Micah lived from it. No travel route for Micah is plotted.
