Nabal’s story is set in the southern hills of ancient Judah. The marker shows the modern village area of al-Karmil, the usual identification of biblical Carmel. It is about eight miles south-southeast of Hebron, in today’s West Bank.
How this place fits the story
1 Samuel 25:2 places Nabal’s home in nearby Maon and his sheep-shearing activity at Carmel. David’s men approached him here to ask for food. The account says Abigail later met David in a ravine, but does not identify its exact location.
Reading the map carefully
This is a modern orientation map. The marker locates a village area, not Nabal’s house or a proven meeting place. Today’s roads, borders and buildings are not a reconstruction of his world. The distance is approximate geographic orientation, not a driving distance. This is Carmel in Judah, not Mount Carmel on the northern coast or the nearby modern Israeli settlement also named Carmel.
