Aaron

Lived: Approximately 1530–1407 BC

While Aaron was growing up in Egypt, the Shang Dynasty was flourishing in China and Stonehenge was already a thousand years old. The world was building monuments. Aaron would help build a nation.

Born into slavery in ancient Egypt (near modern-day Cairo), Aaron became the voice his younger brother Moses desperately needed. When Moses protested that he couldn’t speak well, God appointed Aaron as his spokesman.

Aaron stood before Pharaoh. He witnessed the plagues. He walked through the parted Red Sea. Then came his worst moment—building a golden calf while Moses met with God on Mount Sinai.

But that wasn’t his last chapter. Aaron became Israel’s first high priest, wearing sacred garments and standing between God and His people. He served for nearly forty years in the wilderness, dying at Mount Hor at age 123.

His story reminds us that our worst failure doesn’t have to define our final contribution.
